Program Description:
When the Babson-administered and Babson-approved programs do not meet a student's particular academic needs, that student may petition for approval of a non-approved program.  This approval is granted by the Advisory Committee on Education and is a one-time approval of one particular program for one particular student.

Students applying for approval of a non-approved program must provide clear academic objectives and/or compelling reasons for their petition.  Proposed programs should not replicate existing Babson-approved programs and must meet the basic standards Babson College has established for education abroad programs.  Applications for petition are reviewed on the merit of the individual academic objectives and learning plan in relation to the specific study abroad opportunity for which the applicant is seeking approval.   It is expected that students petitioning a non-approved program will have the support and approval of the Glavin Office of Multicultural and International Education, the Office of Academic Services, and Babson College faculty and academic divisions.

Please note, if the petition is approved, students are required to pay Babson College a $2,000 administrative fee per semester they are abroad.  The fee is independent of any tuition and program fees charged by the sponsoring program or institution.  If the student receives financial aid, they are still eligible to receive this aid.  If the program costs are significantly lower, students may receive a reduction in aid.

As part of the petition process, students must compile information about the program and a rationale for attending.  All programs not appearing on the undergraduate Babson-approved education abroad programs list must be petitioned if Babson credit is desired.

Any student interested in petitioning a program must first meet with an education abroad advisor to discuss their plans and obtain further instructions for the application.

Petition applications are generally reviewed 6-8 months prior to the start of the program, one week after the posted petition deadlines.

The petition deadline for participation in Academic Year or Fall Semester is December 1 (the year prior to the intended year of study).

The petition deadline for participation in Spring Semester is April 1 (the year prior to the intended year of study)
