Graduate Short-Term Program Grant 2020

About the Grant

Grad Grant 2020

The Graduate Short-Term Program Grant is designed to increase access to education abroad programs for graduate students and in particular, to address the number one reason why students do not go abroad: financial need.

Grant recipients will be awarded a $500 or $1,000 grant and guaranteed a space on a specific short-term education abroad program (an Elective Abroad or International Consulting Experience) for the winter session, spring semester, or summer 1st session, 2020. Grant recipients are required to submit a short written or video testimonial following the course.

  • Applications are open July 31 - September 22, 2019 (11:59 PM ET)
  • Decisions sent on October 2, 2019
  • Commitments due on October 14, 2019 (11:59 PM ET)

Who can apply for the grant?

Any graduate student eligible to participate in a Winter Session 2020, Spring Semester 2020, or Summer 1st Session 2020 Elective Abroad or International Consulting Experience may apply for a grant. Graduate students participating in the MSEL Global Entrepreneurship Experience are not eligible to apply. For more information visit our course eligibility page.

How are grant recipients determined?

The primary consideration for grant recipients is demonstrated financial need. Other considerations include (but are not limited to):
  • What course(s) is the applicant interested in?
  • Does the applicant demonstrate a strong interest in the course?

Do I need to apply for the grant and submit a course application?

Students who are awarded grants also need to submit a completed application for their desired course in order to be considered.

Winter Session 2020 Programs
Students who are interested in applying for a Winter Session 2020 course (Italy) must complete their course application prior to the final rolling application deadline (September 29, 2019).

Spring Semester 2020 and Summer 1st Session 2020 Programs
Students who are interested in applying for a Spring Semester 2020 or Summer 1st Session 2020 program should submit their application during the initial application cycle (October 7 - 27, 2019).

What happens if I am awarded a grant?

Students will be awarded a $500 or $1,000 grant for an Elective Abroad or International Consulting Experience of their choice. Grant recipients must complete an application for the course and submit all of their commitment materials by the stated deadlines. Grant money cannot be used toward the non-refundable deposit. The grant money will be deducted from the student's final invoice (program fee minus deposit minus grant).

What if I miss the commitment deadline?

Students who do not commit to their course by the deadline will forfeit their grant money.
