Course Description & Objectives
This year, the International Consulting Experience program will be offered in a virtual format. You will have the opportunity to work directly with an international company on a business issue. In addition to the consulting project, this course will include academic sessions on the consulting process, as well as in-country speakers with expertise in local culture, economy, and historical & current business trends. With the guidance of your faculty advisors, you and your team will work on a consulting project throughout the spring semester which will include regular client meetings as well as primary and secondary research. The program will conclude with a virtual client presentation of your team’s findings and recommendations.
The course will prepare you to…
Analyze the business environment in a foreign country
Assess the goals, performance, and capabilities of a business
Identify the most important issues facing a business
Create a plan to study these issues
Execute the study plan by collecting primary and secondary data and forming conclusions from analysis of these data
Formulate a plan of recommended action
Develop and deliver accurate and compelling communications describing analyses and recommendations
Develop and maintain relationships of trust and confidence with business owners and managers
Work effectively in a foreign culture and a multi-lingual environment (the primary language of the program will be English but some interactions will require translation)
Maintain professional standards of work quality and personal behavior while operating with minimal supervision
Student must be, and remain, in good academic standing with the college for the duration of the course.
All students must have completed or concurrently taking the Babson Consulting Experience (MBA 7800); or BCE core course.
Tuition is paid directly to SFS and billed at the 2019-2020 credit rate. NOTE: This course is a spring semester course with travel over winter session.

Dwight Gertz teaches courses on strategy, leadership, and executive decision making in the undergraduate, MBA, and executive education programs at Babson. He is particularly interested in the challenges of global management and cross-cultural decision making.
Immediately prior to joining the Babson faculty full time, he was a member of the Executive Management Team of Celerant Consulting, where he was President of Celerant Americas and was responsible for the firm’s global human resources, leadership development, and executive education functions. His service at Celerant was the culmination of a career in management consulting in which he was a partner of Bain & Company, head of the Boston office of Mercer Management Consulting, and Chief Executive Officer of Symmetrix, Inc. His 1995 book Grow to be Great: Breaking the Downsizing Cycle was published by Simon & Schuster and released in fourteen printings in six languages. In addition to working in the private sector, Professor Gertz served as an active and reserve officer in the United States Navy, where he retired with the rank of Captain.
Professor Kim Sawyer
Kim Sawyer founded and grew award winning, innovative organizations in the financial services and nonprofit sectors in the U.S. and Europe. For her achievements, she has received numerous accolades including the Silver Stevie Award, a Women’s Business Enterprise Star by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council and was named an Enterprising Women of the Year by Enterprising Women magazine. In 1994, Kim created and served as President of The locator Services Group Ltd. (TLSG), an industry leader in corporate asset recovery. By combining disruptive innovation with novel technology, TLSG recovered hundreds of millions of dollars in unclaimed funds for Fortune 500 companies. Twice, Fortune identified TLSG as one of the 100 Fastest Growing Urban Businesses in America and was named Women’s Business Enterprise of the Year by the Center for Women and Enterprise. In 2017, Kim sold TLSG to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) for whom she now serves as a consultant. She provides overall strategic and marketing direction and assists in developing new technologies for creating process efficiencies.
In 2014, while leading TLSG, Kim brought the concepts of entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility and gender equality to Portugal by creating Connect to Success (C2S) in partnership with the US Embassy. This unique initiative filled an important void for Portuguese women by providing mentorship, training programs and business networking opportunities for women owned businesses. In less than 4 years, C2S had more than 1,100 women participants. In 2015, C2S received the European Diversity Award in London as the Supplier Diversity & Inclusion Program of the Year. In 2016, the European Business Angels Association honored Kim for her work developing women entrepreneurs. Kim served as C2S Executive Director until 2018. She submitted a proposal to expand C2S to West Africa, which was accepted by the Prime Minster of the Republic of Cape Verde.
Prior to founding TLSG, Kim was a practicing attorney in both the public and private sector. She has a BA from Clark University, a JD from Boston University School of Law and received a certification from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College –WBENC Executive Program.
Elise Beaudin MBA’10 provides operational and budgetary oversight for the office as the associate director of the Glavin Office of International Education. As the director of Short-Term Programs, Beaudin leads the team in development and administration of the undergraduate and graduate electives abroad & away and international consulting projects. She is the program manager for the International Consulting Experience in Portugal. Beaudin also teaches in the First-Year Seminar program, serves on the Undergraduate Awards Committee, and the Advisory Committee on Education Abroad.
Beaudin joined Babson in 1994 and has worked in the Center for Career Development, the Consulting Programs Office, and the Glavin Office. Prior to Babson, she worked in sales and product training, mortgage servicing, and software instruction for adult education.
Beaudin earned her MBA from Babson College and her BA in education with specializations in mathematics and psychology from Framingham State University.
